Q: What is the school year like?

A: The school year starts in late August and ends in late June. A BIBS academic year consists of two semesters. The first starts at the beginning of September and ends right before Spring Festival break. The second semester runs from after the Spring Festival break until school breaks at the end of June.

Q: What are the school hours?

A: 8:30am-4:00pm for all students. After school activities are held from 4:00pm-5:00 pm with school buse services available to take children home.

Q: What are your maximum class sizes?

A: The maximum class size for Elementary is 22, and for Middle School is 22. Our teacher to student ratio throughout our schools is approximately 1:6.

Q: Do BIBS students wear school uniforms?

A: Yes, we have both summer and winter uniforms as well as sports clothing for PE lessons.

Q: What supplies do students need to bring to school?

A: BIBS provides basic stationary for students. Students are required, however, to have a re-fillable water container. Water dispensers are available throughout the school.

Q: What are the school holidays?

A: The school year starts in late August and finishes in June. The BIBS academic year has two semesters, the first running from August-February, the second semester running from February through June.


BIBS also has the following public holidays: National Holiday in October (2 weeks), winter holiday in December-January (2 weeks), Chinese New Year holiday (2 weeks), Spring Break in April (1 week) and summer holiday. Q: What is the make-up of the student body at BIBS?

A: Chinese students make up 75% of the BIBS student body and foreign students make up 25% of the BIBS student body.

Q: Where are the teachers from and what qualifications they hold?

A: Most of our foreign teachers come from the USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. All of them are qualified teachers in their home countries and many hold advanced degrees. Many of our teachers  have substantial experiences in teaching international schools around the world. All of our Chinese teachers are norm university graduates and they hold all necessary teaching certificates, many at Advanced Levels.

Q: How do I register?

A: Please our Admissions offices to collect an application pack with more information, or download the application form from the website and submit it along with other materials to the admissions office. Admissions will then contact you to set a date for the interview.

Q: How about the entrance examination?

A: Subject to availability, students can enroll our school at any point throughout the academic year provided they meet the entrance requirements:


Elementary: Age, Language, Math, Previous records and Interview.


Middle School/High School: Language, Math, Previous records and Interview.

Q: Do you have any extra-curricular activities?

A: Both BIBS Elementary and Middle School offer a variety of after school activities.

A: Yes. Throughout the year students participate in various educational field trips relevant to their studies.

Q: Is extra language support available?

A: Yes. BIBS provides EAL and CAL support programs. These are provided as part of the program and are based on test results and recommendations from our Language Support Team.

Q: Is Chinese mandatory?

A: Chinese is required from G1 through Grade 6. Most students in Grade 7-9 take Chinese with options provided at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.

Q: What type of curriculum is offered at BIBS?

A: We are an IB World School and offer the Primary Years Program (PYP) andMiddle Years Program (MYP).


Elementary School: The Chinese and Mathematics programs in the Elementary School follow the Chinese National Standards (except for Chinese language learning for non-native Chinese Speakers). For most students approximately 50% of mathematics is taught in Chinese. Chinese is the language of instruction for 30-40% of Elementary School classes such as Chinese, Mathematics & Cultural Studies (wushu, calligraphy, Chinese drumming, Chinese art, Chinese dance).


Middle School: The IB MYP prepare students to meet the entrance requirements of overseas universities, with all classes (except Chinese) taught in English.

Q: Are there any requirements on students' nationalities?

A: BIBS is open to students from all countries and regions.

Q: Can Chinese students return to Chinese public schools if they leave BIBS?

A: Elementary students (G1-6) can generally transition to Chinese public schools after leaving BIBS. Transition after Grade 6 is more difficult and not recommended.


The BIBS Middle School/ (G7-9) is focused on preparing students for graduation requirements for overseas universities.
